Options for Bringing Herstory in the Classroom to Your School
Integrated into the School Day, Tailored to Your School’s Curricula
The Herstory in the Classroom program can serve up to 200 students over 12-15 weeks as a weekly or biweekly push-in workshop series during the regular school year, culminating in a school- or district-wide celebration of student work (dependent upon holding an event in a way that is deemed safe).
The writing workshops can be run as elective classes or in collaboration with subject teachers. Subject areas include ENL, ELA, Social Studies, Math, and special Multicultural Literature Electives. Herstory facilitators work with classroom teachers to tailor our program delivery to the subject matter, integrating the pedagogy into the course curriculum to achieve an elevated levels of student achievement.
Integrated into Summer Programs
Herstory in the Classroom can serve up to 250 students over the course of an intensive summer school program for 4-6 weeks for both credit-recovery classes and special initiatives such as Newcomer Academies.
After School Herstory Workshops
Herstory can also be run as an afterschool program twice per week, for up to 50 students, for 8 or 12 weeks or a full term, depending on the time constraints of the afterschool calendar. As part of the curriculum, the Herstory writing workshop facilitators will collaborate closely with classroom teachers and school counselors to support students in their memoir writing journeys and provide tools for building resilience. Herstory also has a long history of working in partnership with higher education institutions in order to bring public school students after school to write side-by-side with college students majoring in education, sociology, psychology, social work, criminology, peace studies.
