Herstory at a Glance
Mission & Vision
The Herstory Writers Network’s mission is to bring unheard voices into the public arena by transforming lived experiences into written memoirs powerful enough to change hearts, minds, and policies.

Herstory envisions a world where all voices are woven into the public arena, building bridges across generations and communities and sparking healing, courageous conversations, and collective action.

How We work
At the core of Herstory's memoir-writing circles is our unique pedagogy created by our Founder, Executive and Artistic Director, Erika Duncan. This pedagogy works at the intersection of empathy-building and deep listening, supporting writers of all genders and levels of education to produce high quality memoirs that are at once healing and empowering.
Over three decades, we have facilitated hundreds of these empathy-based writing circles, working closely with a vibrant network of individual supporters, partner organizations and community leaders. Through Herstory’s multilingual workshops held in K-12 schools, colleges, universities, justice-system settings, community spaces, and nonprofit organizations both in-person and virtually, our writers create grassroot literature that champions individual and community transformation.
