A collection of memoirs written by newcomer students with accompanying teaching aids

Brave Journeys/Pasos valientes Book and Curriculum

Brave Journeys/ Pasos valientes

Brave Journeys/ Pasos valientes is an extraordinary collection of 15 stories by young people, ages 14-17, who risked their lives crossing borders alone.

In 2018, Herstory published Brave Journeys / Pasos valientes, a powerful collection of fifteen memoirs by young people ages 14–17 who risked their lives to cross borders into the United States. The project was spearheaded by Dafny Irizarry, founder of the Long Island Teachers Association, together with Herstory facilitator and program consultant Helen Dorado Alessi. With educational consultant Susanne Marcus, Herstory also developed an online curriculum to support educators using the book.

We invite your school to use the Brave Journeys / Pasos valientes online readings and curriculum: https://bravejourneys.org/
