Workshops and Conferences

For those interested in bringing our approach to their own constituencies, we offer a variety of opportunities.

  • In a program specifically targeted for those in the healing professions (but welcoming any interested participants), we offer a one-day conference/workshop in the use of guided memoir writing as an innovative healing tool.  To download our program description, as we put it together for a workshop in partnership with Stony Brook University’s School of Social Welfare, click here.

  • In a program targeted for educators and guidance counselors working at all grade levels (but open to any interested participants), we will offer a 6-session workshop (with 15 hours of in-service credits) entitled “Beyond Journaling: A New Approach to Personal Writing in the Classroom.”   To download the course description we put together for the Peconic Teachers Center’s Fall 2009 program, click here.

  • One school district (Southampton) worked with their town’s Diversity Task Force to fund and design a 10-week program, where principals, teachers and mothers will experience together a hands-on Herstory workshop (designed to use guided memoir writing to build bridges,  celebrate diversity and eliminate traditional hierarchies), team-taught by our senior facilitators,  followed by four weekly sessions with our artistic director taking that experience into a training model,  to trickle down to students at the elementary,  junior and senior high school levels, expanding the outreach.

  • Workshops giving tastes of our method (rather than actual training) recently took place at East End Mental Health Awareness Day, sponsored by the Human Services Departments of East Hampton and Southampton Townships, and at an island-wide conference for high school guidance counselors.    Out of the pool of professionals who participated, some continued with actual training; others brought our already trained facilitators into their agencies or schools.
Please contact us if you are interested in bringing one of these training models to your constituency, or in working in partnership with us to design a new model.
