Program Partnerships

 Program Partnerships
Sometimes there are only one or two people in a high school or college who want to bring our approach to their students, and there isn’t enough institutional backing to support a full training model.    Our goal is to be able to send our trained facilitators into as many settings as possible and then to move into the next arena where we might be needed, leaving behind others who are willing to pick up where we left off.

  • One example comes out of a project at Wyandanch High School, where we were working under a temporary grant in partnership with SNAP Long Island with a “Woman of the Future” after-school program.   After a year and a half, when we were no longer able to work directly with the program, the guidance counselor in charge asked us whether we might be able to guide her in working with the manual so that she could continue to offer it to her girls.

  • Early in Herstory’s history, again through a grant, we had the opportunity to facilitate workshops for the Postpartum Resource Center of New York,  while training their group leaders to be first co-facilitators and then to facilitate groups on their own.

  • In working with the Modern Languages Department of St. Joseph’s College to spearhead a bilingual workshop in a neighborhood torn apart by violence, the department associate chair became interested in taking our method to Nicaragua, where she worked regularly with select groups of students.   As she only discovered us shortly before she was to leave for Latin America, she worked to quickly catch up by beginning her own writing journey in one of our daylong workshop and attending as many bilingual workshop sessions as her busy schedule would allow.   Even though she was only minimally prepared in terms of the ongoing exposure to our approach that we would normally require, she reported amazing results.   For Antoinette Hertel’s narrative about the Nicaragua Herstory Project, click here

These are only a few examples of training opportunities that grew out of our many more program partnerships.   If you are interested in exploring such opportunities with us, please give us a call or contact us.
