PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC

  • Civic and professional organizations can host one day personal and professional development workshops for their members who might want to tap their own writing potential to document family stories or create their own literary art. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS.
  • United University Professionals of Stony Brook University invited a Herstory presentation in conjunction with their celebration of Women in the Workplace for Women’s History Month.
  • Clinicians involved in the helping and healing professions can incorporate Herstory’s method as an adjunct to therapeutic work with trauma survivors to aid healing. As an example , see the brochure for the training workshop we delivered through Stony Brook’s School of Social Welfare: Guided Memoir-Writing/An Innovative Healing Tool.
  • The Women on the Job project of the Long Island Fund for Women and Girls is providing support for one of its task force members representing women in nontraditional employment, Joyce Collier, a journeywoman plumber, with the opportunity to study with Herstory. Joyce’s story along with five others crafted by Herstory participants will be showcased at National Pay Equity Day 2010, April 20, presented in partnership with the Long Island Women’s Institute of CW Post –LIU with the goal of providing Herstory’s resources to other task force members as an advocacy tool. • Herstory’s work in Farmingville and Patchogue, following hate crimes in those communities, demonstrates one more application of Herstory – a Plan to Fight Hate. Herstory’s new bilingual workshops in these communities re-affirms our mission to celebrate diversity and prevent racism through the writing process in Long Island communities most divided by hate.
