Our Latinas workshops, taking place all in Spanish, are offered by facilitators trained in the Herstory approach.

Herstory Latina 
East End – Talleres de Herstory en español en el East End

Sandra Dunn leads a Spanish-language workshop for women living on the South Fork. In September 2004, Herstory launched its first workshop conducted completely in Spanish, providing Latina residents of Southampton and East Hampton the opportunity to tell their stories in their own language. This workshop has had women from many different countries pass through its doors, namely, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru. The workshop meets every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the East Hampton YMCA RECenter (2 Gingerbread Lane) and is offered free of charge thanks to sponsorship from Bridgehampton National Bank.

Sandra Dunn enseña un taller en español para mujeres que viven en el South Fork. En septiembre del 2004, Herstory lanzó el primer taller que se condujo totalmente en español, ofreciéndoles a las residentes latinas de Southampton e East Hampton la oportunidad de contar sus historias en su propio idioma. Han participado en este taller mujeres de muchos países diferentes--Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, la República Dominicana, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico y Perú.. Talleres de Herstory en español en Hempstead – Latina in Hempstead

Silvia Heredia conducts a workshop each Friday night at the Unity Housecleaners Cooperative of The Workplace Project in Hempstead. There, women who work as housecleaners, nannies and cooks, become visible and heard as they meet to craft their stories and share them aloud. Regardless of the language of the workshop, Herstory Writers Workshop offers all women a direct channel for expression and, ultimately, a unique process for turning their memories into works of art. This Talleres de Herstory en españolprogram is supported through Herstory Writers Workshop’s core funding and is offered free of charge.

Silvia Heredia dirige un taller de Herstory los viernes por la noche en la Cooperativa de Trabajadoras Domésticas Unidad, del Centro Laboral de Hempstead, The Workplace Project. Allí, mujeres que trabajan limpiando casas, cuidando niños y ancianos y/o de cocineras, cobran visibilidad y voz al reunirse para escribir sus historias y leerlas en voz alta. Sin importar el lenguaje del taller, el Taller de Escritura Herstory le ofrece a toda mujer un canal directo para expresarse y un proceso único para transformar sus memorias en obras de arte. Este programa de Talleres de Herstory en españolse realiza con fondos del Taller de Escritura Herstory y se ofrece sin costo.

Patchogue Bilingual – Taller bilingüe de Patchogue

Modeled on our previous work in Farmingville, this workshop is part of a larger Herstory initiative to use writing in a plan to fight hate in communities that have been divided by violence. It was formed following the murder of Ecuadorian resident Marcelo Lucero. Taught by Silvia Heredia, this workshop is for Spanish- speaking and English- speaking women. It takes place Wednesdays, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., at the Patchogue- Medford Public Library, 54-60 East Main St. It is offered free of charge.

Nuestro trabajo previo en Farmingville es el modelo para este taller que forma parte de una iniciativa de Herstory de combatir el odio en comunidades que han sido divididas por violencia. Fue formado tras el asesinato del residente ecuatoriano Marcelo Lucero. Silvia Heredia facilita este taller para mujeres hispano y angloparlantes.
