COMMUNITY AND HUMAN SERVICES

  • Human service organizations such as Clubhouse of Suffolk/Synergy contract with Herstory for ongoing weekly workshops at two different sites to empower clients with severe mental illness or a history of trauma.
  • Herstory piloted its work with at-risk adolescents in conjunction with SNAP Long Island’s Women of the Future in 2007. The two-year program began in Bay Shore High School and progressed into Wyandanch High School. It culminated in a workshop for guidance counselors from across Long Island who wished to incorporate the Herstory method into their own work in the public schools. Herstory also provided a bilingual workshop for teen mothers.
  • Herstory provides an overview of its method by participating in enrichment and awareness fairs and conferences such as the East End Mental Health Awareness Day sponsored by the Human Services Departments of East Hampton and Southampton Townships. To download the day’s program, click here. To download a description of our workshops in working the Herstory method as a healing tool, click here.
  • F∙E∙G∙S, Suffolk YJCC and Town of Huntington Women’s Division presented a half-day workshop geared particularly to baby boomers through the Hands on Huntington Project.
  • Writers Circle and A Writers Journey describe two Herstory offerings at a conference for the mentoring community hosted by Mentoring Partnership of Long Island, an affiliate of MENTOR/The National mentoring Partnership.
  • Stories crafted by Herstory participants are showcased at National Pay Equity Day 2010, April 20.  The evening of stories focuses on Long Island women’s gender and pay – related experiences in the workplace, society and beyond.  Herstory readers will include a journeywoman plumber, Latinas from the Workplace Project’s Housecleaners Unity Cooperative, a journalist and others.
