Building Bridges

These workshops are two-hour-long versions of the hub workshops, each with a bridge-building theme, taught by trained Herstory facilitators who continue to work under the supervision of our founder and artistic director.

Huntington Black, Brown and White Building Bridges Workshop

Our Huntington “Black Brown and White” bridge-building group is co-sponsored by the Huntington branch of the NAACP and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington, with some grant money from the Unitarian Universalist Association Fund for Social Responsibility available directly through the congregation to help those who are unable to pay. This workshop brings together women across those racial and cultural divides that so often keep us from hearing one another, and serves as a welcoming site for women who started to write in our prison workshops. Scholarships are available for this workshop. Taught by Lonnie Mathis, the workshop meets Tuesdays, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., at the Huntington Station Enrichment Center, 1264 New York Ave.

Southampton “Hidden Communities”

TEMPORARILY ON HIATUS Our Southampton bridge-building group brings together women from the various communities on Long Island’s East End in an effort to dissolve barriers and document our rich and varied heritage – or as one member once put it,  “to tell the tales from the other side of Dune Road.”  The fee for this workshop is $100 for a month of 4 two-hour sessions to be used within the month (or $35 per single session for those who cannot make the monthly commitment).   Taught by Linda Coleman, it meets Thursdays, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at the Southampton Cultural Center, 2 Pond Lane.

It was formed following the murder of Ecuadorian resident Marcelo Lucero. Taught by Silvia Heredia, this workshop is for Spanish- speaking and English- speaking women. It takes place Saturdays, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., at the Patchogue- Medford Public Library, 54-60 East Main St. Upcoming dates are February 13, 20, 27; March 13, 20, 27; April 10 and 24.
