Karma 411

We are proud to be working with Karma411, a rapidly growing online donation and communication site that brings together people and organizations working for a cause.

In 2008, co-founder John Murcott, secretary of Herstory’s Board of Directors, joined his childhood friend and business partner Mark Fasciano to create Karma411, leaving behind a very lucrative career in web2 technology to follow the dream of trying to make a difference, investing the profits from their previous venture in this largely volunteer endeavor.   Soon the foundation community on Long Island was buzzing with news of this innovative new way to think about online giving, based on the notion of creating a chain between people who care about the same causes, so that each time someone gives even $10, friends can be invited and personal messages can be sent.

Not only orphanages and libraries in Latin America have benefited from karma’s grassroots campaigns – which also provide emergency relief for communities torn apart by natural disasters and strife –  but more and more over these years,  larger non-profits such as United Way, Boys and Girls Club, MADD, Family and Children’s Association, Education and Assistance Corporation, R Baby Foundation and the EcoLogic Development Fund have joined the karma network.

We invite you as Herstory’s friends and supporters to find your favorite Herstory campaign and to not only give whatever is comfortable to it, but to make use of the Invite Friends option to spread the word about our work.    If there is another part of our work that moves you, contact karma and set up a directed gift, or if you would like, create a scholarship in someone’s name.   While we love to see gifts of $1,000 or more suddenly appearing online, we also cherish those gifts of $10 or $20 that come with personal messages, increasing our community involvement.

John has also set up an online store for us, so each purchase of manuals, magazines, posters or note cards is tax deductible to the extent of the law.   He has set up newsletter communication for us as well.
